The Questions Everyone Asks!

For a first trip to Spain, it all depends on what you’re looking for:

  • For cultural immersion: Andalusia is perfect with landmarks like the Alhambra in Granada or the Alcazar in Seville.
  • For beach and party lovers: Catalonia (Barcelona and Costa Brava) or the Balearic Islands (Majorca, Ibiza) offer the perfect mix of relaxation and nightlife.
  • For nature enthusiasts: The Canary Islands, with their volcanoes, wild beaches, and hiking trails, or the landscapes of Galicia, blending land and sea, are great options.
  • For a city getaway: Madrid, Valencia, or Barcelona are fantastic for experiencing the cultural richness and vibrant atmosphere of a major Spanish city.

It’s impossible to choose! The Alhambra in Granada is definitely in the top 3. The Sagrada Familia in Barcelona is also a must-see, and the volcanic landscapes of Lanzarote are truly unique. Every region has something special to offer.

The best time to visit Spain depends on your interests and the regions you want to explore. Generally:

  • Spring: Perfect for visiting cities like Seville, Granada, or Madrid, with pleasant temperatures.
  • Summer: Great for enjoying the beaches of the Balearic Islands, Canary Islands, or Costa Brava. Be aware that some regions, like Andalusia, can get very hot in summer.
  • Autumn: A lovely time to explore Catalonia, the Basque Country, or the vineyards of La Rioja, with milder temperatures.
  • Winter: The Canary Islands offer a sunny escape, while the Pyrenees and Sierra Nevada are ideal for ski enthusiasts.

To avoid the heat, head north to Galicia, Asturias, or the Basque Country. If you’re chasing the sun, go for the islands (Balearic Islands, Canary Islands) or coastal areas like the Costa Brava or Costa del Sol.

Barcelona for its architecture, Madrid for its museums, Seville for its atmosphere, and Valencia for its modern vibe. If you have time, Granada, Bilbao, or Santiago de Compostela are also worth visiting.

Cities like Valencia, Seville, or Zaragoza offer great value for money. For an even smaller budget, explore the small Andalusian villages or Extremadura. Navarra or La Rioja, less touristy destinations, are also more affordable.

The islands! Head to the Balearic Islands for Mediterranean turquoise coves or the Canary Islands for wild beaches by the ocean. On the mainland, I particularly love the beaches in Galicia and Andalusia.
