Here are 5 places to enjoy enchanting landscapes and pleasant weather during spring in Spain. If you’re looking for a holiday at the end of winter, this article is for you.

Where to go in the spring? Head for Spain

Spring is one of the best seasons to discover Spain. Temperatures are mild and pleasant, gardens and parks are in bloom and the streets are alive with local festivities. It’s the perfect time to explore Spanish cities without the summer heat or crowds of tourists. What’s more, there are plenty of outdoor activities on offer.

Cherry blossom in Extremadura

Extremadura doesn’t just welcome spring, it celebrates it. Cacéres in Extremadura, and more specifically the Jerte Valley, is the ideal destination for enjoying the flower season. In spring, thousands of cherry trees come into bloom, creating a landscape of incredible beauty. The valley is transformed into a veritable paradise of brilliant colours and intoxicating fragrances. Imagine more than two million trees in bloom, a white tide stretching as far as the eye can see – sounds great, right?

But Extremadura is more than just cherry trees. It’s an immersion in authentic Spain, where every village tells its own story. Plasencia, with its fortified old town, is an ideal starting point. From there, explore the surrounding villages such as Garganta la Olla, renowned for its well-preserved medieval architecture, or Yuste, where Emperor Charles V chose to spend his last days.

Don’t miss Monfragüe, a national park where rivers, mountains and remarkable biodiversity meet, especially in the spring. Birdwatchers will love it here, as rare species such as the black vulture and the imperial eagle can be seen.

In short, discover a region where time seems to stand still, perfect for those looking to experience Spain in a different way.

The orchards of Cieza: the first act of spring in Spain

In the heart of Murcia, Cieza promises to be the first act of spring in Spain. Even before the cherry trees of Extremadura burst into bloom, the orchards of Cieza take over. Peach trees, apricot trees, almond trees and plum trees launch into a competition bursting with colour, inaugurating the flowering season in Spain.

The town itself, with its imposing medieval castle and archaeological remains, adds a layer of history to the natural beauty.

Perfect for nature lovers and those in search of authenticity.

The 3 jewels of Andalusia

Enjoy spring and the mild temperatures (warm but not stifling) of Andalusia. Seville, Cordoba, Granada – three cities, three jewels, each telling a unique facet of the Andalusian soul.

Seville awakens the senses with its Alcazar, a palace of poetic architecture, and its cathedral, the largest in the Gothic world. Don’t miss the Plaza de España, where the mosaics tell the story of Spain in a green setting. The evenings are filled with flamenco music in the authentic bars of Triana, where passion and art meet.

Cordoba is enchanting with its Mezquita, a masterpiece of Islamic architecture and testimony to a past where cultures and religions interacted. Córdoba’s flower-filled patios, veritable urban oases, celebrate life and colour. Stroll through the Judería, the Jewish quarter, where every street seems to tell a story.

Granada captivates with the Alhambra, a glowing fortress that rises proudly above the city. This palace, with its Generalife gardens, is an ode to beauty and human ingenuity. The city itself, with its winding streets of the Albaicín, offers breathtaking views of the Alhambra, especially at sunset from the mirador of San Nicolás.

Don’t miss these 3 must-see sites:

Nature at Cabo de Gata in Almeria

The province of Almeria is home to one of the continent’s only volcanic sierras by the sea! The result? A landscape punctuated by craters, cliffs, domes and more, offering visitors a magnificent landscape. It’s also a great place for hiking, an ideal activity in spring before the heat.

Explore the trails that wind through the park, discovering secluded coves where the turquoise water contrasts with the black color of the volcanic rocks. The fishing villages of San José and Las Negras are charming places to stop, where time seems to stand still.

The Tabernas Desert, just a stone’s throw away, transports you into another dimension, with its arid landscapes that have served as the backdrop for numerous films. A visit to the region’s film studios offers a fascinating insight into this unique facet of Almeria.

The lavender fields of Guadalajara

For this destination, I advise you to go in late spring/early summer. The fields start to bloom in May and last until around July.  Around 45 km from Madrid, you can enjoy one of the most beautiful sights of spring: lavender fields in bloom! In Birhuega, more than 1,000 hectares are devoted to this colourful, aromatic crop… Don’t forget your camera!

Flowering begins in June, reaching its peak in July. This is when Guadalajara becomes an ode to colour and fragrance. The fields become the ideal place for late afternoon strolls, when the golden light accentuates the hue of the lavender and the air is charged with its soothing essence.

Now you know where to go this spring : in Spain 😎
