Winter is getting long… If, like me, you love the sun and warm weather, all you can think about is your next vacation.
(Yes, I know I live in Valencia in Spain, but it’s true that January and February are a bit colder and greyer and I’ve lost all tolerance – UPDATE, I moved to Tenerife to avoid those few cold months in Valencia 😂).
Has Spain been on your mind for a while? Or maybe you hadn’t considered it, but now that I mention it, why not? Discover 5 good reasons to travel to Spain in 2024.

There's always sunshine somewhere
Spain is a VERY big country: from the Catalan Pyrenees to the west coast of Galicia and the south of Andalusia, not forgetting the Balearic and Canary Islands…it is always sunny and warm somewhere (as well as a huge variety of landscapes).
In winter, head to the Canary Islands for a sunbathing session in the middle of January (celebrate New Year’s Eve with a dip in the ocean, it’s possible).
In summer, if you fear a heat wave, set your sights on the north-west of Spain (Galicia, Asturias, Cantabria).
In spring, organise a city-trip to Madrid or Valencia.
In short, every season has its top destinations and, above all, good weather.
An easily accessible destination (even for long weekends)
The advantage of Spain? It offers exotic landscapes and discoveries within easy reach.
From France or Belgium, the north of Spain is easily accessible by car (it’s even the perfect place for a short roadtrip). The train is another means of transport that is becoming increasingly popular. The major cities are already accessible by train: it takes longer to get there, admittedly, but the journey begins as soon as you step on the train.
Of course, another fast and efficient means of transport is by plane. Especially for the south of the country and the islands, this is the easiest way. If you book well in advance, the prices are attractive. Many airlines such as Ryanair, Transavia & Vueling operate in Spain.
Whether you travel on your own, with your family or with your significant other, Spain is also a safe destination. Depending on the type of trip you’re looking for, you’ll always find activities and accommodation to suit your needs.
The chance to hike in the mountains and swim in the sea on the same day
In just one day in Spain, you can: hike in the Sierra Nevada in Andalusia and swim in the Mediterranean at the end of the day; visit the Teide natural park and surf the Atlantic waves within a few hours of each other… Isn’t that great?
Cultural and natural treasures on a par with far-flung destinations
If I tell you: Alhambra, Alcazar, Prado Museum, Sagrada Familia, … this is just a small part of the list of countless cultural must-sees that you should visit at least once in your life.
Are you more into nature? Playa de las Catedrales, Bardenas Desert, Sierra Nevada, Parc de la Donana, Picos de Europa… The list goes on and on.
Spain (like many European countries) has nothing to be ashamed of when it comes to exotic? destinations. Whether you’re here for a short break or a longer stay, you’re sure to see it all.
Mouth-watering gastronomic specialities
Best of all, travelling in Spain also means enjoying a rich and delicious gastronomy. What could be more convivial than a few tapas to share, accompanied by a Spanish beer or wine? Do you prefer paella? Or seafood? And if you’re more of a sweet tooth, churros, buñuelos and crema catalana should delight you.
